Woodlands Wildlife Refuge, Inc.
Established in 1986, Woodlands Wildlife Refuge cares for New Jersey’s wild mammal and reptile species and is the only facility licensed to work with black bears and bobcats. Each year, Woodlands provides care to hundreds of injured and orphaned wild animals with the goal of returning them to the wild. Interns and volunteers play an important role in helping many of these animals survive.
Description:
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and release of orphaned and injured wild animals. Woodlands handles 700+ animals a year of many native mammal and reptile species. Our goal is the release of these animals back to the wild. Only through our volunteer program can we handle these numbers and provide the high quality care and expertise we are known for. Through the hard work and dedication of our volunteers we enjoy a high success rate of returning animals to the wild. As a volunteer you will be a crucial and important part in helping us achieve the goals of this refuge. Volunteer needs are varied and include everything from cleaning cages and building cages to feeding animals to mowing the grass. It is not glamorous work but it is vital to the care of the animals and fulfilling and educational for you! The only experience needed is an appreciation for wildlife and the importance of volunteering. You must be at least 16 years old. No matter which of the volunteer opportunities (see enclosed) you choose each is extremely important and worthwhile. Your gift of time will always be appreciated. Training is hands on and given by experienced volunteers. We do a call for volunteers several times at the start of our Spring/Summer season as we prepare for and the busiest part of the year.. Please review the enclosed information carefully. Fill out the application and return it to us as soon as possible. Our next orientation will be scheduled in the next few weeks (to be determined). We are located in Alexandria in Hunterdon County and as a confirmation we will send you directions and any further information upon receipt of your application.
