Princeton Pro Musica
Princeton Pro Musica exists to perform choral masterworks and other works of the choral literature with energy, passion, and uncompromising artistic excellence. We believe in the power of choral music to uplift and transform current and future audiences, performers, and communities.
Description:
Princeton Pro Musica includes a 100-voice chorus, orchestra, and chamber chorus. The primary purpose of the organization, since its founding in 1979, has been the presentation of major choral works with orchestra. All chorus members audition annually, and the chorus includes a core of professional singers. The quality of the chorus has been consistently acclaimed. The Princeton Pro Musica orchestra is comprised of outstanding professional musicians from New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. Frances Fowler Slade, founder and Music Director of Princeton Pro Musica, has earned a reputation for achieving high musical standards, and presenting adventuresome programming. Her audiences enjoy the great choral-orchestral masterworks of the past and new works by American composers, as well as purely orchestral or choral compositions. She has made substantial contributions to music education, presenting many concerts in schools over the years and involving young people in regular concerts, both onstage and in the audience.
History:
Since its founding in 1979, the chorus has performed with many area orchestras, including appearances with the Opera Orchestra of New York in Carnegie Hall, and performances with the Princeton Symphony, the Opera Festival of New Jersey, the Westfield Symphony, and the Greater Trenton Symphony. The orchestra has been featured in several subscription concerts, playing such works as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony. The Chamber Chorus has sung several times with New York’s Concert Royal, and also performs at community events. Princeton Pro Musica has been the recipient of three grants from CHORUS AMERICA and receives funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
