New Jersey Small Business Development Center

The Small Business Development Center at The College of New Jersey provides counseling, education, mentoring, training and highly specialized resources to existing small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in Mercer and Middlesex counties to help them grow, stabilize or create a successful business. This is done in partnership with its host institution; the NJSBDC network; federal, state, county and municipal entities; business and economic development organizations; and educational institutions.

The NJSBDC at The College of New Jersey aspires to be the primary source for small business counseling and training services for owners and entrepreneurs, and a highly recognized and respected resource throughout the state and the business community for the value of its programs, the success of its clients, and the economic impact it has on the region and the state.

Description:
Government originated, college host supported program to provide free management and technical assistance and training to existing and start-up companies. Over 1100 centers nationwide. New Jersey has 11 regional centers and 18 affiliate offices

Services include: Developing and assessing business plans, formulate marketing strategies, craft accurate financial statements, determine feasibility of business ideas, prepare cash flow projections, loan-packaging and accessing capital, e-Commerce and more.

History:
Part of a national partnership between the state and federal governments, the private sector, colleges and universities, funded by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the State of New Jersey , contributions from host institutions, corporate and foundation donors.

One of the first national SBDC pilot projects resulting from the enactment of Public Law 96-302 by Congress.

In 2008, 631 Clients Counseled, 106 Training Events
1744 Training Attendees. 64% of clients Are In Business
we helped 93 New Businesses Get Started, 14 Small Business Loans Approved and $1,194,300 Total Business Financing. 29 Women Business Enterprises, 64 Small Business Enterprises and 35 Minority Business Enterprises we helped get certified. Helped 4 Companies Secure 8(a) Certifications, 416 Small Business Contracts Secure State Contracts and placed 297 businesses on the Mercer County Bid List*
