The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association is central New Jersey's first environmental group. Since 1949, we've been protecting clean water and the environment through conservation, advocacy, science and education. We protect and restore our water and environment, fight for strong environmental policies and protections, scientifically monitor the health of our waterways, and educate and inspire a love of our natural world.

We are your water, your environment, your voice.

Description:
Here's a little bit more about what we do:

Conservation
From our 860-acre Watershed Reserve in Hopewell, NJ to locations across the region, volunteers and staff are engaged in projects that protect and restore natural habitats. Our Watershed Reserve features more than 10 miles of hiking trails, the Buttinger Nature Center, Kate Gorrie Butterfly House and Honey Brook Organic Farm. Our River-Friendly program partners with landowners - residents, businesses, schools and golf courses - to promote responsible land management.

Advocacy
For six decades, the Watershed Association has led the fight to preserve our region's water and land. We engage local and state officials urging them to strengthen environmental protections, improve planning and zoning, and make better informed decisions about our future. Staff and volunteers speak out against development proposals that would harm the local environment and our quality of life.

Science
Across the region, volunteers help us collect key data on the health of our streams and other key environmental factors. We distribute information to citizens and officials in central New Jersey and work with them to address pollution of our water supplies and waterways. Our GIS Center combines scientific data with mapping systems to help citizens and officials plan for a better future.

Education
The Watershed Association serves more than 10,000 children and adults each year through nearly 400 education programs. From our Summer Camp to family outings, our programs inspire an appreciation of the wonders of nature and explain what we can do to protect our environment.

History:
The Watershed Association was founded in 1949 by a handful of individuals concerned about the impact of farming and development on our water and environment. Since then we've grown into one of New Jersey's largest watershed organizations, leading the way for environmental protection across central New Jersey.
