Heads Up Special Riders seeks to promote self-awareness, self-discipline, self-confidence, and coordination in people with special needs through a safe and nurturing therapeutic horseback riding program.

Description:
Heads Up provides recreational and therapeutic opportunities for adults and children with special health and/or developmental needs.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and we strongly prefer people who have experience around horses.

Volunteer tasks include leading horses, walking next to horses to insure riders' safety, helping instructors in the riding ring, helping with barn chores, tacking up horses, and showering horses on hot days.

Volunteers are also needed to help with yearly planning and hosting for the Heads Up Horse Show and for Heads Up's annual fundraiser.

History:
Heads Up Special Riders has been providing opportunities to riders with special needs since 1991.
