Last updated on May 5, 2010

The Adult Education Program at TASK provides tutoring for members of our community who are seeking to attain their GEDs, and thus, higher-paying and more stable careers.

We are ALWAYS looking for tutors to help in our Adult Education Program. The minimum commitment is once every other week. While some volunteers come every week, others come every day, and personally mentor a student. By serving as a tutor, you can help give someone the tools to improve their lifestyle and that of their family.

Days & Times:
Monday through Friday 9:00 to 11:00AM
Monday through Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Tutors must be at least 18 years old. There is no teaching experience necessary. Training and materials are provided.

My reflections on volunteering at TASK

The rewards for volunteering at TASK are phenomenal! Not only am I helping individuals to further their education but, by getting to know many of the students personally, I've gained their trust and friendship which fires me up every morning when I arrive at 72 1/2 Escher Street in Trenton at 9.00 am. It goes without saying that many of the students have experienced lives that those of us more fortunate find it hard to comprehend. So not only am I a tutor but also an untrained mentor who hopefully can bring support, advice, love and encouragement to those whose lives have not been as smooth as mine. The rewards are endless and the comradeship overwhelming. And so I see myself not only as a tutor but also an unofficial mentor, friend and supporter. It's hard for me to leave the warm environment of TASK each morning when my time there is over.
