Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on November 18, 2009 |
If you have dealt with, or still cope with, any specific illness, disability, addiction, bereavement situation, major parenting problem, caregiver concern, abuse situation, or other stressful life problem, consider joining with others in your community to better cope with that same challenge by starting your own local mutual aid self-help group. The Clearinghouse will aid you in the process by first checking to see if there is any existing self-help group for your concern that you might join and help, and then if there is no existing local group and you are willing to volunteer, advising you on steps for joining with others to start a mutual aid support group. Good listening skills. A lot of caring. Personal experience with the specific condition or adversity your group will focus upon. Willingness to seek out other group co-founders who "have been there" to help with the development. Dedication to identifying and helping group to address the felt needs of members. Respect for others' opinions. No specific schooling or training is required. This opportunity is sponsored by: New Jersey Self-Help Group Clearinghouse
